Mission Statement

The Iowa City Experimental Film Festival continues to provide an exhibition outlet for media that operates outside of typical commercial exhibition and distribution channels.  Our mission is to spread the reception and appreciation of international small-gauge filmmaking throughout the Midwest region, bringing together genre- and form-breaking work with under-served audiences.  Iowa City's tradition of experimental and microcinematic filmmaking provides the ideal setting for hosting these events after THAW's permanent hiatus.  By involving Iowa City residents of every age and background in screenings and activities associated with the festival, ICE continues to encourage a dialogue between international experimental filmmaking and the community.
